![]() Handsome Biscuit is a restaurant that specializes in biscuit sandwiches that fit breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The taste is not sugar water which is what I look for in a soda, but the flavor is not too present in this one drink. The smell is way more natural than most soft drinks so is the way it looks because they use black cherry juice rather than artificial colors. The drink is very fizzy, doesn’t coat the tongue, and is tart. The black cherry is not an in-house drink like the rest of the fountain drinks since another company named Boylan makes it. The Black Cherry is a fountain drink like Sprite, but the difference is that they make it with cane sugar rather than High Fructose Corn Syrup. The coleslaw smells fresh with tiny notes of sweetness and vinegar. The apples and cabbage are delightfully crisp as they give the dish a refreshing feel after the hearty meat is done giving its flavors. ![]() The coleslaw is a very light violet that tastes like a homemade coleslaw you can make yourself if you have decent cooking skills but is tasty nonetheless. The meat as it hits the tongue feels like soft strands giving your mouth a more relaxed time chewing since it is not full of charred chunks. The protein in this is a bit lackluster with the BBQ flavor, but the meat is succulent and slippery with notes of black pepper. The AC Slawter’s biscuit is palatable, with more hints of honey, with a light evenly browned bottom and is firm, but not hard to the touch with the feel of a cake’s bottom. The smell of the AC Slawter whets the appetite with its blend of spices and hints of sweet honey that comes off as mildly spiced. The AC Slawter at first glance is not too far off from an ordinary BBQ sandwich. The Lupo sauce can be described as a slick peppery condiment that has comparable heat to chili flakes. The Lupo sauce is a red, not so spicy condiment that they offer that is used in some their biscuits. The AC Slawter has BBQ pulled pork in the middle of their biscuits with apple coleslaw and their signature Lupo Sauce. This place differs from most dining options since they produce their products in front of you, that they are minimally processed, and are rarely from freezer to plate. ![]() They offer desserts, like other restaurants, but theirs are made in-house just like some of their sodas. Their sides are offered at breakfast, lunch, and dinner since they offer veggies such as arugula and other greens to hash browns or waffle fries. The menu they offer is diverse, using eggs as the main protein but also has chicken, pork, and bacon biscuits. You can expect to be greeted by a cheerful cashier who will kindly help you when you need it, and the kind of customer service they offer isn’t too different from Chick-fil-A’s. The colors of the inside are predominantly yellow with tiled floors and brown wooden tables, giving this place an old-fashioned feel. One may call the atmosphere here calm and slow but in a good way. Handsome Biscuit, at first glance, before walking in, is a little ordinary in the looks department, but redeems itself when you step in to absorb the atmosphere this place holds. If you have time on your hands or want something substantial, Handsome Biscuit is the place I would recommend that you at least give a chance, since you could have a new favorite menu item, biscuit-wise that is. My food and drink of choice was the biscuit called the AC Slawter and the fountain drink soda called Black Cherry. The whole class went as food reviewers on Nov 8th to sample and talk about the food and drinks we chose. They run from 9am-2pm Monday, 9am-9pm Tuesday-Saturday, and 9am-3pm Sunday. This restaurant is on 4200 Monarch Way, Norfolk, VA 23517 on the Old Dominion University campus. Thanksgiving is almost here as we go to a restaurant called Handsome Biscuit, that is known for their biscuits.
